Prevention strategies for viruses and flu 

·      Handwashing for 30 seconds with liquid soap

·      Stay home if you are sick with fever, cough or respiratory problems

·       Foundations: Remember the importance of a simple diet with low sugar, hydration, stress management, exercise, and sleep.  These are crucial for the immune system

·      Garlic: 1-2 cloves a few times a day or with meals

If you have flu-like symptoms (fever, cough, respiratory symptoms)...All of the above are helpful along with:

·      Increase the elderberry 1-2 tsp up to 4-5 times day

·      Hydrotherapy: warming socks every night, contrast with every shower

  • Warming Socks

This treatment increases circulation and decreases upper respiratory congestion. It is also useful for acute infections.

Soak a pair of thin cotton socks with cold water. Soak your feet in a warm bath. Wring socks out thoroughly and place them on your feet. Cover the cold socks with a second pair of thick, dry wool socks. Go directly to bed to avoid getting chilled. Keep the socks on overnight.

  • Contrast shower:

At the end of your shower, do 3 minutes of hot water, 30 seconds of cold water with 3 rotations, ending on cold

 

Immune Boost Soup

• 1 small yellow onion, chopped
• 1-5 cloves garlic, chopped or crushed (to taste)

• 1 tsp - 3 Tbl. grated fresh ginger root (to taste) • Juice of 1/2 lemon
• Shiitake mushrooms 1⁄2 cup sliced
• 1 quart chicken or mushroom broth
• 3 tablespoons of fresh, minced parsley
• 1 grated carrot

Directions:

1. Combine the broth, onion, ginger, garlic, mushrooms and simmer for 15-20 minutes.

2. Remove from the heat and add lemon juice, carrot and parsley. Put cover on pan and steam for 5 minutes,

Eat 1-4 times a day.
